Welcome to the NOSC! Every year at the July COSGP meeting, the Council hosts the National Osteopathic Student Caucus (NOSC). Here we discuss resolutions in a parliamentary format on behalf of all osteopathic medical students. The following the links connect to all the House of Delegates Resolutions and Board of Trustees Resolutions for the July 2009 meeting.
The NOSC was held from 6:30-8:30 PM CST on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the Embassy Suites Lakefront Hotel in Chicago. All osteopathic medical students were welome and encouraged to participate. If Chicago was too far to travel, students were encouraged to participate in the NOSC via the COSGP Chat LIVE . Each student was prompted to choose a 'nickname' for the NOSC chat rooe. First name, last name, and school was used for each nickname, for example: Owen Vincent, LMU-DCOM Once each student entered their nickname, they entered the NOSC online. There were two chatrooms for interaction. The first was titled NOSC Output. This was a READ ONLY flow of information from the NOSC. This way each student could read the live discussions in Chicago. The second was titled NOSC Input. This was for active student discussion. Here students responded to both the Output and Input chats. This was an excellent opportunity to share personal and professional concerns students had for the current directions of osteopathic medicine and the future of American health care. As there were many AOA resolutions, too many for COSGP to cover during the NOSC, the following list of resolutions were those discussed. These had been chosen for their pertinence to students' issues and concerns. For the NOSC to be the most productive it can be, it is always beneficial to be familiar with the resolutions prior to the caucus. We were glad to hear from everyone in Chicago! |

Every July, a great number of members of the Osteopathic Family congregate here in world-class Chicago for the American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) House of Delegates (HOD), the democratic policy making body of the osteopathic profession. The AOA HOD meetings are an opportunity for all osteopathic physicians and students to work collaboratively to formulate policy for the profession. The week of the HOD also provides an important time for renewal of friendships and celebration of the rich tradition and bright future of osteopathic medicine. The student leaders you elect, which comprise the Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COSGP), enthusiastically represent the voices of all students at each college of osteopathic medicine. The members of the COSGP work to increase awareness of important issues that directly affect the present and future of the profession. Through our national student programs, keynote speakers, workshops, and volunteer opportunities, we work hard to provide value to all osteopathic medical students and to ensure the continued growth and prosperity of the osteopathic medical profession for the benefit of all patients. |
